Literary Criticism

Literary Criticism is the study, analysis, description, discussion, evaluation and interpretation of literary works. It is usually in the form of a critical essay. Criticism may focus on a particular piece of literature or may look at the general writing of an author. It is important to mention that in order to examine the author's piece of writing; the examiner must have a good cultural background. First, it is important that the examiner understand the book in all its extent. Secondly, the examiner begins little by little the analysis of the author's book, attaching to his analysis different important paragraphs that support the critical review.
The purpose of Literary Criticism is to inform the audience the interpretation or evaluation the examiner has about the author's literary work.
In my opinion, this analysis helps the audience to understand the author's writing because, several are the possible topics authors write about, e.g. philosophy, politics, music, painting, ... being difficult for a reader to have the whole picture of a book. It is then important for students to have the analysis, evaluation, description, discussion and interpretation from an expert.

In Orange Peels and Apple- Eaters: Buddhism in J.D. Salinger's Teddy, Magagna says... (1) "The way in which Teddy describes the orange peels as appearing in front of him, and then, moments later, beginning to sink out of view - out of existence - points to the Buddhist idea of impermanence, nothing last forever - those things that we perceive, and even our own lives, are temporary occurrences which will, with time vanish"
The previous paragraph is a clear example of literary criticism, in sum, without the examiner's analysis, I could not understand Teddy character in the J.D. Salinger‘s novel.

The New Journalism
It is a style characterized by telling a story with a sense of reality but using fiction techniques. The writer's topic is aimed to inform whatever issue he intents to. It is important to mention that the New Journalism is a resemblances between fact and fiction.( Michael Wood 1). Fiction techniques are used by the writer to make the reading very provocative. This style was found in magazines such as The Rolling Stones, New York Magazine, The New Yorker between others. This style was not intended to be found in newspaper. But lets analize the main characteristics:
Scenes.
Telling the story using scenes rather than historical narrative as much as possible
Dialogue.
Conversational speech and not statements
Point of view.
All the scenes presented using a particular character
Details.
Status life of the character, it is important to detail their behaviour, possessions and his surroundings
In sum, a very interesting style that mantains elements of reporting following the facts accurately.

ABSTRACT
Graffiti-spraying, littering, and other forms of disorder in a neighborhood promote further bad behaviour.

According to a group of researchers in the Netherlands, a place that is covered in Graffiti, and dirty or messy makes people feel uneasy. Kees Keizer and his colleagues at the University of Groningen deliberately created the setting as part of a series of experiments designed to discover if signs of vandalism, litter accumulated could change the way people behave.
The experiment consisted in creating a perception of disorder in an alley that is used to park bicycles.
A wall was painted with graffiti and inside a small are, some garbage was left, creating a condition of disorder. The researchers posted a sign prohibiting graffiti, so that it would not be missed by any one that the place was being monitored. All the bikes then had fliers promoting a non existing sports shop attached to their handlebars. This needed to be removed before a bicycle could ridden. When owners returned they litter the fliers on the floor with no culpability. It was the conclusion after the research found out that 66 percent of the total 80 bicyclists did it compared with the 33 percent in the non graffiti-scenario.

Cubism: An artistic movement in France beginning in 1907 that featured surfaces of geometrical planes. Cubism was a 20 th century style pioneered by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque, that revolutionized European painting and sculture. It is important to mention that the term derived from a reference made to geometric schemes and cubes by the critic Louis Vauxcelles in describing painting exhibited in Paris by Braque in 1908. It is more generally applied not only to work of this period by Braque and Picasso, but also to a range of art produced in France during the later 1900s, the 1910s and the early 1920s and to variants developed in other countries. Personally I do not like this style.
